PROJECT OVERVIEW

About Tanom Marketplace

Direct agricultural trade connecting regional farms with food businesses in Butuan City and the Caraga Region.

The Core Mission

“Tanom” originates from the Visayan word for plants and crops. The marketplace was created to bridge the critical gap between smallholder family farms, agricultural cooperatives, and institutional food buyers across Northern Mindanao.

Traditional agricultural supply chains in the Philippines subject growers to volatile middlemen margins and opaque pricing. Tanom provides direct, transparent B2B trade where businesses are the primary customer: farms list fresh harvest batches with verified minimum order quantities, and commercial kitchens purchase at transparent, integer-centavo prices.

Academic Demonstration Context

Tanom Marketplace is an academic software engineering capstone built to professional enterprise standards. Every architectural layer reflects real-world B2B software engineering invariants: multi-tenant organization boundaries, atomic stock ledgers, fail-closed row-level security, and responsive mobile-first workflows designed for farmers in rural barangays.

The Butuan & Caraga Regional Cast

Demonstrations and verified scenarios feature five regional agricultural enterprises in Agusan del Norte:

Agusan Valley Organics

Organic farm cooperative in Ampayon, Butuan City specializing in native tomatoes, pechay, and red bulb onions.

Caraga Agri-Producers Cooperative

45-member grower federation in Libertad supplying premium Dinorado rice, golden papayas, and lemongrass.

Balanghai Bistro

Heritage culinary restaurant in Bancasi sourcing direct organic produce for daily kitchen service.

Grand Palace Hotel Butuan

Commercial hospitality venue in Doongan requiring consistent bulk rice and fresh culinary fruits.

Architectural Invariants

Integer Centavo Financials: All transaction totals and prices are calculated strictly in integer centavos to prevent floating-point rounding errors.
Atomic Inventory Reservations: Multi-seller checkouts lock stock atomically in Postgres, preventing overselling under concurrent load.
Cash on Fulfillment: Trade operates on cash-on-pickup or cash-on-delivery, fitting regional trade norms without unnecessary payment overhead.
